5. Cryptostephanus, Baker in Trim. Journ. Bot. 1878, 193, t. 197. - Perianthium
tubulosum, incurvum, superne parum ampliatum ; lobi breves, subæquales, subpatentes ;
corona ad apicem tubi e squamis 12 anguste oblongis erectis æqualibus. Stamina in
medio tubo æqualiter affixa, filamentis brevissimis ; antheræ tubo inclusæ, erectæ,
oblongæ, in cylindrum conniventes, prope basin dorsifixæ. Ovarium 3-loculare ; stylus
columnaris, antheras vix attingens, vertice stigmatoso parum dilatato ; ovula in loculis ∞,
1-2-seriatim superposita. Bacca, a nobis non visa, ex Bakero globosa, coccinea, semi-
nibus in loculis 1-2 turgidis.-Caulis in rhizomate brevissimo basi subbulbosus, vaginarum
basibus tunicatus. Folia loriformia, coætanea. Flores in umbella densa numerosi, par-
vuli, breviter pedicellati, purpurascentes. Bracteæ breves, angustæ, nonnullæ exteriores
involucrantes paullo latiores longioresque.
Species 1, in Africa Angolensi a Welwitschio lecta. Coronæ squamellæ nobis minime staminodia
videntur, etsi nonnullæ apicem versus papillis substipitatis instructæ essent, et forte interdum
pollinem colligunt nec emittunt.
